What are my chances of being selected for a scholarship?
A total of 50 (1-year) scholarships will be offered to MU students beginning with 2011-2012. Students who meet the minimum criteria have a good chance of being selected for a scholarship.

What criteria are used to award scholarships?
A student applying for Noyce Scholarships must meet the following minimum criteria:
What do Noyce Scholarships cover?
Noyce Scholarships will be applied to a student's account. Students may use this funding for any school-related expenses, including housing, books, tuition and other University fees.

What majors are eligible for these scholarships?
The dual-degree programs include the following options:

Dual-Degree Programs

1.

BA in Biological Sciences/BS in Secondary Biology Education

2.

BS in Chemistry/BS in Secondary Chemistry Education

3.

BA in Geology/BS in Secondary Earth Science Education

4.

When and how will I be notified if I am accepted for a scholarship?
You will be notified by letter within a few weeks of the deadline. Students must be accepted into Phase 2 of the Teacher Development Program before scholarship money will be released.

Does the amount I receive in scholarships affect my financial aid?
Yes. The scholarship provider gives your award to MU as credit towards your tuition. When this happens, MU adjusts your unmet financial need accordingly.

How do I check the status of my application?

How does the selection committee select scholarship recipients?
After checking to see if applicants meet all of the standard criteria required for the scholarship, the selection committee will base their decisions on completed applications, including transcripts, letters of reference, and 1-page essays.

What happens if I don't meet the requirement to teach two years in a high-needs school district following graduation?
Noyce Scholarship recipients are required to teach two years in a high-needs school district for each year of scholarship, to be completed within eight years of graduation. If this requirement is not met, the scholarship reverts to a loan and must be repaid. Contact Marilyn Soucie for more information.

Do I have to teach in Missouri?
No. However, the school for which you teach must still qualify as being in a high-needs school district.

Who is sponsoring the program?
This National Science Foundation funded project is a collaborative effort involving faculty from the University of Missouri Science Education Center and the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geological Sciences, and Physics.

Why do I have to fill out a FAFSA?
Information supplied to the University from your FAFSA documents your financial need and is required for the awarding of any scholarship.

How do I fill out a FAFSA?
Applications and information can be found at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

If I filed a FAFSA last year, do I have to fill out another one?
Yes. A FAFSA is required each year to update your (or your family's) current financial situation.

If I received a Noyce Scholarship during my junior year, will I receive one during my senior year?
It depends on several factors in your application and FAFSA, including but not limited to GPA and other eligibility criteria.

When will I receive my scholarship?
Scholarship money will be applied each semester to your University account. If your University account balance is $0, a refund of the remaining balance will be issued to you within one week. In your junior year, application of funds is dependent upon successful entry into Phase II of the Teacher Development Program.

What is a CBASE score?
All College of Education students pursuing teacher certification are required to take the College Basic Academic Examination (CBASE). Students must achieve a minimum score of 235 on each section of the exam as part of the criteria to enter Phase II of the program.  Information about testing dates and registration for the CBASE is available through Testing Services located in 205A Parker Hall, 882-4801, or http://testing.missouri.edu.
